Journal 23/1/12 – 27/1/12
This week we continued to edit the footage that we shot as a whole. This is where our title sequence started to come together. We put both of the footage together and watched it before we started to edit. The reason in which we done this is so that we could discover the paces that needed to be edited together, this provided us with knowledge whether we had to change scenes or not. We discover that we didn’t need to change any scenes so we combined the footage together. After we had done this we had to arrange the footage in the correct order, this is down to the fact our title sequence starts at the end meant that we had to put the end footage of the student killing the teacher at the beginning. This part was important mainly because if we didn’t get this correct it would make sense to the audience so when we edited we made sure that it was in the correct order.
Journal 16/1/12 – 20/1/12
In this week the group continued to film the title sequence, this was a process in which took a fair amount of time. The reason this was is down to the fact that we wanted to get the best shots that we could. This time we filmed the characters journey to school, this is scene in which will inform the audience of how the character got to the school. This part of the film was a difficult thing to shoot mainly because of the amount of people and cars that obstructed the shoot. The reason in which we chose this specific location was the fact that it was quite and near the school that we were going to shoot at. Due to the group deciding that the character should come across as lonely we needed to make sure that there were know one crossing our path so we achieved this as we eventually found a time that the road was empty. In addition we also started to film the in school scenes. This was relevantly easily mainly down to the fact that we just had to film the character entering the school with students passing like a normal day, this took one take as we believed the first take was good enough to use. After that we then decided to shoot the classroom and cupboard scene , this was difficult and we only started to film this we didn’t finish it in this week.
We also started the editing process; we started to edit the house scene. This was a time consuming process mainly because we wanted to make the title scenes the best we could. I started to edit and cut parts of the scenes that we didn’t need. This was a major part as this informed the audience of his routine before school. We also started the voiceovers to be inserted in the title sequence; to do this we used a Mac as this was the best method to get a clear and understandable voiceover. As a group we came to the conclusion that we needed to reshoot the school scene, this was because we believed the type of shots we got didn’t help the title sequence run smoothly so we reshot these scenes to make improvements.
Journal 13/1/12
The first thing that our group done was to start filming the title sequence, this was a major part mainly because this would be the footage that we will use as our final piece. The first thing that we done was to go to the locations that we were going to film. The first location was the bed room of the character, we had to make sure that the room looked believable and would fit the location of a student. We inserted certain things such as a clock and a glass of water items that people tend to have in there bed room. By doing this it would make the location look believable and realistic for the target audience. One we done this we had to make sure the character was wearing the correct costumes, meaning that the character would have to wear things that a typical student would have to wear. We had to make sure that the student would be wearing his glasses this is a major thing as by doing this it can indicate that he is a geek. In addition we had to make sure that in the shot there was nothing that would indicate any errors such as continuity.

In this week as a group we expanded on our title sequence ideas and in addition we also produced a questionnaire. We had a strong idea of what we would do for our title sequence but we needed to make sure that this was everything that we could do was possible. We had to decide on final location that we would use and if they still will be available. To do this we had to negotiate with a teacher to see when there room was available. We had to make sure that we could have all the props that we would use available, this was an easy job mainly because the props that we would use belong to the members of the group so the availability of each one was vital. The next thing that group participated in was making a questionnaire which then will determine the name of our film. In the questionnaire we inserted a question asking the gender, the main reason we done this is so that the questionnaire was equal meaning that the feedback will be fair. Also we inserted the plot of the film this is so that the people that are doing the questionnaire will know what the film about leading to them is being able to easily choose the correct title. We inserted the name that the group came up with we used a circle so that the people who agreed to do it can tick the one they believe is suitable. The name which had the most votes was Ronald: Grade ‘A’ Killer, this is the name that we will use for our film name.

In this week as a group we complete the storyboard for our title sequence , each member drew a scene in which will appear in our title sequence. This was a time consuming method mainly because we had go through our idea and insert them into scenes. Once we completed the storyboard we had to change some of it, this was because we believed it don't flow so we added a few other scenes. When we completed the storyboard we decided to colour it in by doing this we believe that it wont look professional. In addition the group produced the animatic this is a sequence of images. We done this by scanning each storyboard frame and putting it into final cut pro by doing this it will create a video. Before we was to complete it we had to find a soundtrack that will go with our title sequence because we had chose 4 tracks we had to choose from them. In the end the group decided to choose a track called 'Maybe Not Now' which we discovered on a copy right free website. Due to us choosing the song we then added it to our animatic and uploaded it too YouTube. The final thing in which we done in that week was created our typography and the cast and crew in which we will use

Journal: Lesson 12
Lesson 12 was dedicated to blogging, this meant that I was able to update and make any amend post. In the lesson I made changes to previous post. I posted the presentation that our group produced on our film idea in which I explained about each slide in addition our group discussed possible names for a film, this is because we was yet to decide on one. We also discuss other factor that we had not yet decided such as director and cast, this is important as these are the aspects in which can sell the film to the audience. I found this lesson helpful, this is because it gave me time to add more post and add things that I had not added to my blog.
.
Journal: Lesson 11
In lesson 11 the class was able to use the Macs. We used the Macs to work on our blog, this meant we could add and edit any posts. In this case constructed my own research I which was related to the genre of our film idea. Our film idea is in the Black comedy genre so this meant that i researched existing films that are in the same genre. The films in which I researched were Cherry Falls, Cable Guy, Beetlejuice, Big Nothing and Very Bad Things. During my researched I looked at the sort of aspects that occur in this particular genre. This helped me it provided me with an idea of plots that the group could possible produce.
Journal: Lesson 10
In lesson 10 the class pitched their film idea to the class. The idea in which the class had to pitch was involving the idea for the coursework task. In my group was Billy Hogger, Luke Shelley and I, we each produced a slide and provided our own ideas about things we could insert into the film. During the lesson each group pitched their film idea, this consisted of the name of the film, director, plot, budget and cast. Whilst each group was pitching their idea to the class they were being filmed. Once each pitch came to a climax the class were free to ask any unanswered questions in the viewers wanted to find out. When t came to my group to pitch our idea it was difficult, this was due to Luke Shelley not being in. This affected our pitch as we didn't decide on all of the information about our idea. I believe that our pitch wasn't the best , this is because we were unprepared. I have learnt that if i produce a pitch again I should be more prepared and know what we are going to say. We answered most of the questions that we needed to but there were a few points that we didn't make clear.

Journal: Lesson 9
In lesson 9 we first were given feedback on the pitches that we presented to the class. This was preparation before we had to pitch our film idea to the class. In the feedback we were given we had to write down aspects that make the perfect pitch. By using the information that we were given it will allow each member to improve the way they pitch and also things that need to be included. This information help us as a group as it could allow us to acknowledge things we missed out when producing our pitch. As a class we discussed our own opinion on things that we believed we could improve on as individuals when pitching to people.
Also in the lesson learnt about film distributor, I discovered that it is a film company responsible for the film being released. We had to create a spider diagram to show the things that a film distributor does for example they advertise the film to consumers. In addition they try to get the film into cinema so that they can make money. After we discovered what a distributor is we had to choose a new film that had not yet been released. On this we could work individually or in pairs. I work in a pair with Luke Shelley. We decided to choose the new Mission Impossible film starring Tom Cruise. Once we chose the film we had to answer a number of question in PowerPoint, these included who the distributor is?, why they distributed the film?, the target audience, cast, USP (unique selling point) and similar films. I found this interesting as I believe I have discovered thing about film distributors the films I learnt is how they aim there films at different target audience, how they get people to see the film.
Journal : Lesson 8
In lesson 8 us being the film company we had to watch the film producers pitch their film. From this we as the film production company had to discover which film suited our company best. There were three film companies and three film producers this meant that each film production company had a film aimed at them. In our previous lesson we had to research and find information about the film production company that we were provided with. This meant that if we done the right amount of research then we can discover which film is aimed at us. Whilst the film producers were pitching there film idea the film production company were taking notes such as the film genre, budget and stars. Once every producer pitched their idea the film production companies discussed with their colleges what film they believed was aimed at them. This is where the notes come into hand as each company could then relate t the notes that they had taken. At the end of the pitch Jason and I discussed what film we though was aimed at us. Due to us having Paramount Vantage we discovered what film was ours. The film was aimed at us was a Romantic, low budget and because of this we know it was aimed at us. I found this interesting as I found our information about the different production companies and the sort of films aimed at them.

Journal: Lesson 7
In lesson 7 each group presnted their own title sequence in which they produed for the film Groundhog Day. Each grouppresnted it and they had to answer question related to the title sequence. One of the question that could be asked was What shows that the film is going to be British? Once the groups presented there idea the class were given the opitionty to mark each groups title sequence out of 10 and then provide constructive critisism. This then meant that the groups could then acknowledge things that they could improve when it came to making there own. I believe that when Luke and i presnted our idea to the class it was successful. When it came to answering question about it Luke and I took it in turns. When it came to the class providing us with feedback , most of the feedback was good but there were a few thing that the class said we could improve , this included the that the background was white, but we explained that we done this to carry a British theme. I have come to a consclusion that from this lesson i have improved my presntationa skills and also learnt that if we done it again we can improve a few aspects.
Once everyone presnted there title sequence the class then were allocatd into there coursework group. In which as a group we had to come up with a film idea. This film that we decide in then have to be advanced and made into a title sequence. Ech individual in the group provided there own ideas for a possible film, with this final infomtaion we created a brain storm in which i have previously posyed on my blog and named title sequence ideas. During this lesson as a group we decided we wanted to produces a black comedy. We listed possib;e ideas as well as examples, this then could help as as we can look at these films to get ideas.

Journal: Lesson 6
Lesson 6 was a blog lesson; this meant people who needed to create more post had the chance to do this. I was up to date with my blog, so in this lesson I went through my current posts and looked at thing in which I could add to them. In addition to this is also made a few new posts which included posting lesson notes and a PowerPoint in which I had produced. I wrote a few lines about each post so the people know a bit of information about it. This lesson was helpful as I was able to make sure my blog was to a high standard and it allowed me to add thing that were necessary.

Journal: Lesson 5
In lesson five the class was split into half, this was done so that each half could be put into groups. Half of the class was going to be a film company and the other halves were film makers. Once this was done each half was split into three groups this meant that there was going to be three film companies and three film makers. The film companies were given a sheet of paper, which contained questions that they had to answer about different film companies. The film makers were given a company they had to aim there film at the company didn’t know which film was there’s. The filmmakers had to pitch their idea to al of the film companies, in there pitch they informed the film companies of their films name, genre, target audience, plot, cast and crew, cost and revenue and release date. Once this had come to a climax the film companies had to pitch who there company was things about them. I was with Jason and the company that we were given was Paramount Vantage, in out presentation we included the history of the company, types of films, genre of films they tend to produce and the relations we have with other film companies. At the end of the presentations the film companies had to guess which film was aimed at them. This was a good lesson as I learned about different types of from companies and the sort of things inserted in a pitch.

Journal: Lesson 4
In lesson four people presented their title sequence designers case study. People in the class chose a variety of different designers so that not everyone done the same person. Whilst people were presenting their PowerPoint I took into account the feed back that they were given. The reason why I have done this is so that I can make my presentation the best that it could be. In this lesson there wasn't enough time for me to present my PowerPoint to the class. Also in the lesson we had the choice to either work in groups or individually to produce an opening title sequences to the remake of Groundhog Day. Luke Shelley and I decided to work with each other on the task of the title sequence. When producing it we had to consider mentioning vital information this included the name of the production company, the actors and the name of the film. The reason why we done this, firstly we showed the production company because the audiences then wouldn’t know who created it and the type of film it would be. In addition we use three major colours, this is to represent the British theme. In this lesson I learned how to use a numerous different feature on Photoshop. I learned how to insert pictures and alter them. I enjoyed this as I now can add Photoshop to one of my skills. In lesson four people presented their title sequence designers case study. Journal: Lesson 3
In lesson 3 as a class we looked an existing title sequence. We looked at the title sequence to the film called ‘Dawn of the Dead’, we analysed the title sequence to see what sort of features that a horror title sequence contain. and also existing pre title designers, I found this interesting because this is the start of the film which has to draw the audience in and entertain them before the film starts. Otherwise if they don’t succeed and entertain then the audience might walk out before the films starts. This showed me that it is an important and hard job as the success is on the hands of he designer. Once we looked at these we looked at well known title sequence designers these included the likes of Saul Bass and Kyle cooper. Eve though we looked a Kyle Coopers work we didn’t look at him and his life, whereas we looked at Saul bass life and the work he produced. We looked at Some of Saul Bass most famous title sequences such as Oceans Eleven and the man with the Golden arm. We looked at the title sequences and discussed as a class the codes and conventions that they contain. Once we finished this we were allocated the task to look at other title sequence designer and create a case study on the person. We were provided a website link called ‘watch the title.com’ which gave us a list of designers. After I looked through them I found a man called Laurent Brett and decided to produce my case study on him. The reason in which I chose him is because when looking through his work he produced title sequence to films I have heard of but also films I have never heard of before.

Journal: Lesson 1 and 2
This is my journal in which I will comment on my ideas and thoughts that I have on the work in which I underwent. In my journal I will be discuss what I found interesting and what I learnt during each lesson and comment on possible ideas which I could construct from new information which I learnt.
In the first lesson we were taught what a title sequence and their purpose in a film. I discover that a title sequences is a method used which cinematic films or TV programs present title, key production and the cast members, or both, utilizing conceptual visual and sound. I found this interesting because I learnt that a title sequence is one of the most important thing in a film. This is because it provides the audience with an insight to what the film will be about. The reason in which this is one of the most important things in a film is down to it having to entertain the audience. If it doesn’t then the audiences won’t want to watch the film and leave before it has began. This means that it has to interest and appeal to all of their target audience. A title sequence is important because it introduces the genre to the audiences, provides the setting, informs the audiences of the atmosphere/tone and shows possible characters that will appear. As well as this we discover the codes and conventions of title sequences which are guide lines that the designers can follow when constructing theirs. I found learning about these interesting; this is down to when it comes to me constructing my own title sequence it gave me a number of things to include such as all the cast and crew to inform everyone who participated in the making of it. Also that it has to be entertaining otherwise the audience will get bored.
In the second lesson we looked at existing title sequences and the use of typography. We began to analyse title sequences such as se7en and catch me if you can. As well as taking note of the uses of codes and conventions in these title sequences, we also analysed why certain thing are done. In se7en I discovered that the typography has been scratched/written, this could indicate that the genre crime as it could link to writing on a prison wall. Also the images through out the title sequence symbolises the genre. From Catch Me If You Can I discovered that the typography is fluid and it carries on to the next shot, this shows that everything is linked together. The typography used looked like it was constructed using a typewriter this indicates the time the film was set. I enjoyed and found looking at existing title sequences interesting this is because it provided me with ideas which I could put forward when creating my own title sequence. Another thing that I found interesting was that whilst analysing title sequences I found something common, this was that the sequence hinted and showed that audience a possible genre. So when producing my title sequence I will take this into account and try to use the codes and conventions that are necessary.
